by | Jul 23, 2019 | 3 comments

Do you also find yourself admiring people who seem to be traveling around the world and still living a comfortable life? Have you ever wondered how they achieve that elusive dream of globe-trotting and cash is also coming in? How do they do that?

A Digital nomad job allows you to travel around the world to see amazing places and relies on the internet to generate income to sustain this type of lifestyle. But don’t fall into it and abandon your day job before planning your nomadic journey. If you dream of one day threading the path of a Digital Nomad, then brace yourself because the reality is a bit different.

To ensure a smooth transition to becoming a digital nomad, it won’t hurt if you get to know the 5 mistakes that digital nomad makes while traveling around the world.

  1. Failing To Research Your Internet Quality

As mentioned, a digital nomad job basically relies on the internet to make money online. They choose the location and set their route. However, we have seen digital nomad wannabes who do not do their homework and check for the quality of the internet offered in the place they have chosen to live in for a few months. This can ruin your business if not sorted out. Make no mistake and don’t slack, make sure to check the reliability of internet coverage in that area or get back-ups to avoid headaches later on!

  1. Not Establishing a Routine

When you have a digital nomad job, the success of your business is closely related to the level of your motivation and the amount of work you put in,  and since you are always on the go, you are bound to meet distractions on the way, hence, it is advisable to set a routine. You may say, that’s why you set out on digital nomad existence since you want to be free from routine but come to think of it, the more productive you are at a certain time increases the time you will have to explore the customs and lifestyle of the new place you have chosen to live. So it is advisable to establish a routine, or a time when you feel you’re most productive be it early morning or in late afternoon.

  1. Shiny Object Syndrome

There have been many digital nomads who have fallen prey to shiny object syndrome. They are putting themselves all over the place. Whenever they meet someone on the way who is successful in their chosen niche, supposed a dropshipper, he also wants to set up his own shop online and be a dropshipper since for him it is quite an easy business, or if he met someone who has been doing stock trading and he also wants to become a day trader since this could easily make him more money without working so hard. But don’t be sidetracked by what you see. These people have also spent hours and hours of learning to be able to put up their business or be able to study the market and become who they are. Focus on you, otherwise, you will just be trapped in a vicious cycle of working and spending time on so many things yet with little return of investments. Focus on your business and your business only.

4.    Immersing Yourself In Social Media

Let’s admit it, we all fall into this, taking a selfie or a picture of the food we are about to eat and then getting carried away by the post and comment we gained by merely posting the image on our Facebook or Instagram accounts. Imagine the amount of time we wasted interacting with our friends on social media yet we fail to interact with the locals. Don’t let social media affect your experience of the place you are in. Interact with the people around you, breathe, live in the moment, you can upload those images and answer their comments later once you’re back in the hotel. Seize the opportunity to merge with the locals.

  1. Traveling Without Insurance

This may be overlooked by many but it is best to be ready for any eventualities. We are not made of steel, we eat, breathe, drink and sleep and we cannot be sure of what tomorrow brings. Hence, buying good travel insurance is a must if you’re planning to live and work anywhere.

Being on the digital nomad lifestyle can be a life-changing experience, be sure to remember the pointers mentioned and you’re good to sail to different places while building your business online or live and work anywhere and yet still able to live the lifestyle and not getting out of funds.
